Adventure is an Attitude

adventure is an attitude, and other thoughts on living adventurously

There are a lot of brands, blogs, and instagrams out there that promote adventure, but what does that actually mean? What does is mean to have an adventure, to be adventurous, to live an adventurous life?

I’ve been giving this some thought lately.

You don’t have to go far, or have a lot of money, or tons of free time to have an adventure, you just have to have the right mindset. To be adventurous is to seek out something, anything new, or at least new to you.

Adventure is an attitude.

beauty is all around us

everyday is a winding road

Take a wander and see what you see

Last weekend I had a day off with no plans, so I decided to go have an adventure. So I packed a few things into my backpack, my camera, a bathing suit, some snacks, and water. And armed with a full tank of gas and a tip that there were wildflowers off Sonora Pass I headed out to see what I could find.

Adventure is going down a road just to see where it leads.

Adventure is pulling off the side of the highway to walk around and see the view.

Adventure is having the courage to go someplace new purely out of curiosity.

climbing rocks and getting views

its all about scale

When I set out on my adventures last Friday I had a vague plan. It was – drive down to Sonora Pass, find the river on the left side of the road, then pull over at any point that looked interesting. I did just that, I pulled over in several turn outs, not all of them were great views or had beautiful scenery to photograph but I was just curious as to what was out there. Late in the afternoon I ended up down on the other side at the bottom of the pass, in the little town of Sonora. At which point I had to make a decision, should I back track and drive back the way I came or pull out the map and find a new route home.

Guess which option I choose?

Having an adventurous attitude is also being flexible to changes your plans and direction with wherever the day takes you. Even if I have a whole day planned out, if I hear about something cool that isn’t part of the plan, I always will pivot and adjust to go check it out.

Always carry paper maps, you never know when you'll loose service

So here’s to having an adventurous weekend. Go out and explore, go with the flow, and let your curiosity get the better of you.
