Tahoe’s scenic landscape makes it a great place to take photos. From the mountains, to the lake, to the forest you’d find epic scenery everywhere. 

I love exploring new places and location scouting for photos around the lake and over the years I’ve found some really awesome spots. These are 10 of my favorites places, some are easy to get to, and some take a bit of effort and hiking, but they are all spectacular.

The Best Spots for Photos Around Tahoe

Maggies Peak

A short but steep hike takes you up to amazing panoramic views of Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay, and Cascade Lake. 

Cave Rock

Get a unique view of Lake Tahoe and highway 50. Cave Rock is right above the highway and right on the lake.

Fallen Leaf Lake

The lake is beautiful with views of the mountains behind it, plus there are awesome forested areas full of pine trees and aspens, and meadows for a variety of landscapes and backdrops.

Kiva Beach

Beautiful sandy beach views of the lake. You can get some great photos of paddle boarding or kayaking on the water as well.

Whale Beach

The classic boulders in the water views of the lake without the crowds of Sand Harbor. It’s a bit of a hike down to the beach but totally worth it for the serene landscape.

D.L. Bliss State Park

D.L. Bliss State Park has tons of trails and viewpoints to explore and get some awesome outdoorsy pictures.

Ragen Beach

An easy lake view to get to in South Lake’s Al Tahoe neighborhood. There is a grassy park as well as a path along the lake with beach access.

Tahoe Mountain

Tahoe Mountain is a fun hike and has some great views, boulders, and trees that make an excellent outdoorsy backdrop for photos.

Angora Ridge

You can hike or drive up to Angora Ridge for spectacular mountain views and the old fire look out station is pretty cool too!

Emerald Bay

The classic Emerald Bay shot is almost cliche, but it’s popular for a reason, it’s pretty darn beautiful. There is a parking area on the side of the road, but it can get really crowded in peak season so I’d recommend going for sunrise. Fewer people makes parking and find a good spot easier, and the sunrise over the lake is always gorgeous.
