Best Beaches In Milos

The Best Beaches in Milos // Nattie on the Road

The Greek Islands are some of the most beautiful places in the world. The island of Milos is part of the Cyclades group, and is where the famous Venus de Milo statue was discovered. The vibe of the island is mellow and it has some of the best beaches around. You aren’t going to find the typical long white sand beaches here, the beaches of Milos are a little more unique, which is why I loved them so much. The best beaches in Milos are in protected coves, have bright white rocks, and some have sketchy ladders down to them, but it’s worth the climb.

Sarakiniko Beach, Milos Greece // Nattie on the Road

Sarakiniko

Sarakiniko is the beach you see in photos of bright white smooth rocks casually sloping into that bright blue Mediterranean Sea. It’s located on the north side of the island, and you can get there by bus, taxi, ATV, or boat.

It’s one of the more popular beach, and I think you can see why, it’s pretty gorgeous. However the beach area is pretty spread out so even if there are a lot of people there it never feels crowded which is nice. There is a small sandy beach area, but the rocks are perfectly fine to post up on, the volcanic rock is soft like sandstone so it’s not like you’ll be laying on a granite countertop. I would recommend bringing some shade with you like an umbrella, or at least a hat, there isn’t anything in the way of shade or cover out on the rock and that sun can get mighty bright!

Papafragas

Papafragas is also on the north side of the island, to the east of Sarakiniko. It’s easy to get to by car because it’s just off the main road. The north side of the island can get windy but this little cove is protected on almost all sides by volcanic rock walls.

The beach area is small, but the water and swimming are great. Because this cove is so protected it makes the water very calm and serene. It’s usually not too crowded since the beach area is so small, you also have to walk down a rather narrow and sometimes slippery path down the cliff to get to the beach, which can leave some people enjoying the view from above.

Tsigrado Beach, Milos Greece // Nattie on the Road

Tsigrado

Tsigrado is on the south side of the island and is accessible by car or ATV. Well the parking lot is definitely accessible by vehicle, but to get down to the beach you actually have to climb down a rope and then a rather steep and slippery wooden ladder.

The beach itself is really nice, not too crowded and the water is bright blue and crystal clear. There is a good amount of swimming area, and some cool small rock caves and inlets to explore.

A Beach With No Name

So originally I thought this beach was Gerontas, but after a little further research I realized it was not, and couldn’t find any information on it. It was however a really cool beach. It’s on the south western side of the island, on the part only accessible by ATV or 4wheel drive vehicles. We saw it from the road and noticed a rather sketchy path heading down toward it so of course we had to check it out.

The beach was rocky and had what looked like the remains of an old boat garage and possibly a patio with a fireplace. The cove itself was almost glassily calm the the water was so clear you could see straight to the bottom. We had to the place all to ourselves, probably because it’s so hard to get to. But if you are looking for some cool secluded beaches rent an ATV and check out the south west side, there’s nothing really out there but coast line so make sure you have plenty of gas.
