A Winter Packing List For Lake Tahoe

packing for Lake Tahoe in Winter

Winter is coming!

That means cozy cabin weekends and ski trips.

When I lived in San Francisco I would make several trips up to Tahoe each winter to snowboard and for fun weekends in a snowy cabin. Living most of my life on the coast where temps usually don’t get below 50 degrees going up to the snow always felt like a special treat.

To me Tahoe is the perfect winter getaway, there a little bit of something for everyone. From outdoor snow sports to just hanging out by a warm fire, it’s a great place to spend a weekend.

This packing list includes everything you’d need for a winter weekend in the mountains. Whether you’ll be out shredding on the slopes or just hang out with some hot cocoa, you’ll have everything to stay nice and warm in the snowy conditions.

My biggest concern in cold weather is always staying warm, so I’ve become the master of layering. When hanging out inside I like to be comfortable and stick with jeans and a long sleeve shirt or flannel. When I’m heading out to run around town or go for a walk I’ll add my puffy jacket, a hat, scarf, and gloves to keep me nice and warm.

The same goes for when you are hitting the slopes or just playing in the snow. I always start with my base layers on top and bottom and wool socks underneath. Then depending on how cold it is I’ll layer my sweater on before putting on all my waterproof snow gear. And don’t forget the beanie or hat, gloves, and sunglasses!
