Packing for a Winter Weekend in San Francisco

packing for a winter weekend in San Francisco

After years of living in San Francisco, I love to go back to visit. It’s an easy weekend trip from most places in California either by driving a couple hours or a short flight. It’s a perfect weekend getaway whether you are going with friends or your person.

Even though California might give you visions of sunny skies and warm beaches, San Francisco tends to be a bit chillier, especially in the winter. So packing good warm layers is key. A small umbrella to throw in your purse isn’t a bad idea either. The winter months can be wet and drizzly.

Packing list for San Francisco

A typical weekend in the city for me consists of meeting up with friends for drinks, going out to dinner and maybe a concert, brunch (obviously!) and hitting the climbing gym for a little exercise. So that is what I pack for, comfy and casual during the day, my favorite layering combo is a t-shirt and flannel over it with jeans. Then a little dressier at night for going out, a blouse and cardigan with a warm coat and booties.

Here are a few outfits I actually wore on a recent trip to the city by the bay.

Layers are essential! I loved San Fran when I visited last year, although it was actually warmer there (in April) than it was in Los Angeles, which I didn’t expect! #farawayfiles

I am such a terrible packer and take way too much to hedge my bets. Love your pared back approach. Thanks for sharing on #farawayfiles

Ooh I love that patterned blouse! I still can’t believe how little you pack when you travel, Natalie. I’m incapable of streamlining my clothes choices in the same way so it’s really interesting reading how you do it. Thanks for sharing on #FarawayFiles
