A Quick Guide to Milos

A Quick Guide to Milos // Nattie on the Road

Milos is one of my favorite Greek islands, with it’s cool beaches and mellow vibes it’s the perfect place if you are looking for a laid back relaxing vacation. This quick guide to Milos includes all my favorite places to stay, eat, drink, and things to do while you are on the island.

Stay

Tilamacho Studios: Located in the port town of Adamas, on a quiet street right off the main road. The cute studio apartment style rooms include a little kitchenette and AC for those hot days. It’s family owned and operated by the nicest people, so you get a very personal and welcoming experience.

Eat/Drink

Yankos: Best kebabs ever! If you are looking something delicious, inexpensive, and easy, stop by Yankos in Adamas and grab a kebab or a pita. You can take it with you out to the beach, or hang out and eat outside on picnic tables there.

Akri: Up on the hill right near the port in Adamas is a fantastic bar with an even better view. Akri serves up delicious cocktails as well as live music and dancing if you are feeling the itch for some nightlife.

Kinigos: Among the many waterfront restaurants in Adamas is Kinigos. It’s a great spot for dinner, and to get your fill of seafood and mediterranean food. Sit out front to see the boats come in and out of the harbor and people watch.

To Diporto: Adventure up the hill to the town of Plaka, where the road ends you’ll find a pedestrian path and a bougainvillea covered walkway, this is where To Diporto is. Sit outside under the flowers and enjoy some delicious seafood and amazing homemade bread.

Do

Go to the beach: Milos has some of the coolest beaches around, they are all beautiful and unique. The water is warm and crystal clear and perfect for a swimming. Being an island, there are beaches all around, it’s as easy as walking down to the beach in Adamas or as adventurous as renting an ATV and exploring the coast along the southwest side of the island. And definitely check out the picturesque Sarakiniko beach on the north side. For some of my favorite spots check out this post!

Rent an ATV & go on an adventure: There are plenty of places to rent an ATV, it’s really the best way to get around the island. Find new beaches, check out all the little towns, and explore the rugged terrain of the west side of the island, which is only accessible by ATV or 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Take a Boat Tour: To get to some of those beaches not accessible by road, take a boat tour around the island. Spend an afternoon exploring the island by sailboat with an experienced and knowledgeable crew. They even provide snacks and drinks, so that’s pretty sweet.

Notes

Weather: In the summer and into the fall months the weather stays pretty warm in the 70’s and 80’s, plus the water is warm too! Winter is mild only getting down into the high 50’s and 60’s.

Money: Like the rest of Greece and Europe, the currency used is the Euro. Be sure to have cash on you, as most places do not take cards. There are a few ATM’s on the island if you ever need to get cash out.

Transport: Getting to the island you can take either take the ferry from Athens or one of the other islands in the Cyclades island group (see this post about taking Greek ferries). There is also a small airport on the island with a few flights a day. Once on the island you can get around by bus, or taxi, but the easiest thing to do is rent an ATV. You’ll have a bit more freedom to go where you want, when you want. There are ATV rental places all over Adamas, and you are good to go as long as you have a valid driver’s licence.

Great summary of Milos! I was in the Greek Islands not that long ago and didn’t make it there but did visit Andros which was stunning 🙂 Not to mention the obvious islands such as Mykonos, Santorini and Naxos, but next time I go I plan to go to the less visited islands.
